Are you a Zealot for Christ or a Zealot for the World?

Zealots of the World versus Zealots of the Gospel

by Barbara Henderson

It is a pleasant thing when someone has a calling, a profession, or hobby that they enjoy or believe in enough to pursue it with zeal. People who pursue something with zeal may fall into the following areas:
Naturalist – a person interested in biology or zoology.

Environmentalists – advocates or works toward protecting from pollution .

Climatologists – deals with climate and how it works.

Animalists - animal behavior specialist or one believing man lacks a spiritual nature.

Evolutionists – biological evolution instead of creation.

Humanists – emphasize human advancement above human reconciliation with God.

Earth religions – new age umbrella term used to cover religions that worship and seek guidance from the earth, nature, fertility gods and goddesses.

Human rights champions – believing all men are created equal and should be allowed equal rights.

Materialists – more concerned with material things than spiritual or cultural things.

However, there are those who follow their calling, profession, or hobby to the extreme become Zealots. Some examples of zealots in the modern day are:

Naturalist Zealot – a person whose interest in biology /zoology has led them to adoration/worship of the things they study, and gives them cause to ridicule and persecute those who do not also worship as they do.

Environmentalist Zealot – one whose zeal in protecting the environment has led to rabid and irrational over protectionism.

Climatologists Zealot – one who sees the climate as the key to saving the planet, and sees his/her self as the savior of the world through efforts to limit the impact and number of human beings.

Evolutionist Zealot – one who sees evolution itself as a form of god.

Humanists Zealot – one who sees man as being able to advance through social manipulation until man becomes god.

Earth Religion Zealot – varies greatly, but earth centered in thinking and actions – opposes any restriction to doing what seems right to them at the moment.

Animal rights Zealot – go beyond animal welfare to animal rights – working toward giving animals legal standing.

Materialist Zealot – goes to any means, even illegal, to amass goods. Luke 12:16-21 tells a sad story of a Material Zealot. Material Zealots probably don’t want you to have anything. Their goal is to get it ‘all’.

Some commonalities of these Zealots are:

They have a presupposed unproveable ideology which may be changed to better suit the social and political climate of the day.

They spout their theories as though they were absolute facts and unalterable truth.

They intend to convert everyone to their viewpoint – even by oppression and/or force.

Political and social tyranny are their weapons of the day.

They are aided and abetted by all aspects of the news and entertainment media.

And, worldly Zealots of any sort will accept and promote any celebrity as an ‘expert’ who happens to think like they do. That is why we have the simple minded Hollywood crowd testifying before congress as experts. I guess they ‘feel’ like they are experts, so that makes them experts.

The common denominator among all these ideologies is salvation by works. Each one puts mankind at the center of an undetermined future. If mankind steps up to the plate and sacrifices and works toward saving the environment, the earth, the climate, and nature then the earth will be saved. Or, if mankind just realizes its potential and begins to think like a god, then the earth will benefit and human beings will take a quantum leap forward in evolution. Men and women will be like gods. Regardless of the specific goal, each religion under the guidance of its zealous adherents, requires sacrificial work on the part of the novice adherent in order to make the desired outcome possible.

Many of these zealots fit into more than one category, as they all overlap at some point into a mass of collective humanity.

All these zealots are servants of the collective. The foundations of all these works based religions and their followers all have their foundation on shifting sand. Whatever whim seems useful or good at the moment is a tenant of their faith. The path to ‘salvation’ today is obsolete and useless tomorrow. The only things that consistently stay the same are:

• Mankind must save himself

• Jesus Christ is NOT the way

• The God of the Bible is ineffective, unhelpful, and should not be considered when making government rules or social standards.

Because of the ‘reasonableness’ of their vision for the future of the planet and mankind, they ‘feel’ justified in implementing their vision for the future through whatever means necessary. Manipulation, deception, lies, and outright force against the ‘unconvinced’ are all justified in their thoughts. Those not influenced down the ‘right path’ by the social and political tyranny inflicted on dissenters are labeled as ignorant and singled out for ridicule and marginalization.

One thing that is often very noticeable about Zealots of the world is that they demand behavior modification from the human collective (you, me, and everybody but them), but they don’t actually live by the standard which they preach. Look at any Climate Zealot, or Environmental Zealot. The more prominent they are, the more outspoken they are, the less they follow their own preaching. Al Gore for instance, has made a fortune promoting climate change. He wants us to all conserve everything while he only uses more and more. He justifies himself by the ‘carbon footprint offsets’ that he sells. His increasingly lavish lifestyle gives no hint of his care for the climate. He has no intention of lifting a finger to save the earth. He just grows rich while scaring children. He is a Climate/Materialist Zealot. And – who was that moron who suggested we save the planet by ‘using only one sheet of toilet paper’? She should have been laughed off the planet for that remark – and if she only uses one sheet of toilet paper – well – I hope she washes her hands well and changes her underwear often. Of course, excessive hand washing and laundry will use more water and put a strain on the environment that way. She probably needs to rethink that. The truth is of course that she isn’t planning to do anything she suggests you do.

Zealots are not all bad. In fact, Zealots can be divided into two groups.

• Those who believe they are right in converting others to their view point through deception, coercion, aggression, force, and ultimately the choice between life and death.

• And, those who believe that in order to be a true follower of anything, the individual must have free choice. No one can be forced or scared into believing anything in the depths of his or her heart.

All Zealots are religious in their thinking and in their actions. ‘Religion’ is defined as ‘something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience: (example – to make a religion of fighting prejudice. http://www.dictionary.com ) Worldly Zealots place their particular ‘religion’ above anything else in importance. They proselytize for their religion. They condemn those who don’t jump on their band wagons.

For all the fanfare and hype, people are ultimately left with the same two options that were given to Adam and Eve in the beginning. The individual must chose to either believe God or believe His adversary the devil. There are no other real choices.

I mentioned that to the first type of Zealot, deception is an acceptable tool to be used to his or her advantage. One very evil thing wicked Zealots do is to take the only two real options given to mankind, and make it appear that there are many options available. If one is not happy with the environmentalist movement, then pick the humanist ideology and get on board their agenda train. If one does not like the socialist movement, or the animal rights movement, then get on board the climatologist or naturalist train. It doesn’t matter. The seeker is able to try many ideologies until they find a cause which stirs their souls. It appears that the seeker has many options from which to choose. This gives the father of lies many different soap boxes from which to broadcast various options. Every itching ear is a potential new zealot for the same old lie. It is the goal of all zealots to make zealots of all who join their ideology group.

The real unalterable truth is that the seeker still has the same two options. The seeker must either believe God, or believe the serpent.

The second type of zealot, a zealot for the Truth, is prohibited from coercion, deception, force, or any other type of persuasion except simply telling the truth. That is the truth according to the Holy Bible. If a Christian steps into any form of conversion outside the bounds of truth and love, then they have strayed from the teachings of Christ. And, it is unnecessary to use any of the worldly tactics to convert others to Christ. The power of Christ is in His gospel. It only requires that the truth be told repeatedly.

An example of a worldly sales tactic is that when someone wants to sell a product, the exact same product is presented in many different ways. The goal is to come up with something that interests one group of buyers, and something else that appeals to a different age bracket or demographic . That is a worldly tactic, and not worthy of those who present the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

A Zealot for the Gospel must act according to the example of Jesus and the instructions given to us in the Bible. There is no hint of Jesus or anyone in the Bible doing anything to make the Gospel more appealing to the unsaved. No one in the Bible becomes ‘like the world’ in order to get a more receptive audience or a bigger audience.

If you desire to be a Zealot for the Gospel:

Do the things Jesus says to do.

Don’t ask other people to live by Biblical standards unless you live by them yourselves.

Be kind, tender hearted, and forgiving.

Love one another as Christ loves you.

Remember, everything boils down to the same two choices.
Chose to follow God, or chose to reject Him.

A natural course that follows your decision is that you are made again in the image of the God/god you serve.

If you are a Christian, the more zealously you serve Christ, the more you conform to His image.

If you are a zealot of the world, the more your image conforms to the things of this world.

I would like to add one more thing.  If you are a Christian - but not zealous for the things of the Lord, then you are a lukewarm Christian.  Remember what Jesus had to say about lukewarm Christians  in  Revelation 3:16.  He said, 'So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.'

The Rapture - What is it and When will it Happen?

The Rapture - What is it and When will it Happen?

There was a man claiming the rapture of true Christians would occur May 21 a while back.
Many are wondering, 'Exactly what the 'rapture' is and when Christians can expect it to happen?'
I hope you find this information helpful.

The rapture is ‘the snatching away’ of the Christians from this earth.
Christians are true believers in Jesus Christ.
Christians are not ‘ritual church goers’ who believe attending church will get them into heaven.
Christians are not ‘cultural Christians’ who have their social lives wrapped up in church.
They are those who have gone to God the Father through Jesus Christ the Son.
They are saved.

Some may wonder, ‘Saved from what exactly?’
Christians are those who have been
redeemed,
bought back,
set free,
saved from the curse that came into the world with the sin of Adam and Eve.

The Bible tells us in Romans 6:23 ‘For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.’
(A ‘sinner’ is someone who isn’t perfect. Do you know someone who doesn’t fall into that category?)

You may be wondering exactly what is the RAPTURE for which these Christians are watching?

1 Thessalonians chapter 4 tells us:

13. But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.

14. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

15. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

16. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

17. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

So, the RAPTURE is the raising of the dead Christians, and the transformation of the living Christians. This is not the return of the Jesus Christ to earth to reign. This is the ‘snatching away’ of the church. The Christian church, all true followers in Jesus Christ, will be supernaturally evacuated from this planet before a time of trouble such as the world has never seen begins.

This is the comfort to Christians in the loss of loved ones and in facing death personally.
We KNOW, like Job, that in our flesh we shall see God.
Job 19:25-26
25. For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26. And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

WHEN will this happen?
In Matthew 24:36-39 we are told:
36. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
37. But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
38. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,
39. And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.

The truth according to the Bible is that the RAPTURE or the ‘snatching away’ of believers in Christ – both living and dead – will occur. It is also true only God knows when.

So, when you hear of someone preaching the ‘rapture’ on a certain day you can KNOW that they are preaching lies.

Some may claim to have ‘new revelation’ from God. This is baloney. They may have experiences that are unexplainable. They may have ‘feelings’ that lead them to believe something contrary to scripture. They may be flat out delusional. However, they definitely do not have any new revelation from God.

The Bible is
Inerrant – it has no errors. God Almighty spoke the world into place. He has no problem getting a book written exactly as He wants it written.
Relevant – applying to every person in every generation.
Sufficient – it has no need of new revelations. Everything we need to know to find Jesus Christ is in the Bible.

Do YOU know Jesus Christ?
Do YOU want to KNOW you are saved and going to heaven when you die?

The Philippian jailer asked a question in Acts 16:30. He said,
30. And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

In verse 31 Paul gave him the answer. He said,
31. And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Here is a link to a short article on salvation on my daughter and son in law’s web page.

Here is a link to 4 sermons by John MacArthur on salvation.
You can read them or listen to them on audio.

Nothing is more important than determining your eternal destination.

Before Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead He said to the sister of Lazarus,
‘Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:’ John 11:25

On the day the RAPTURE occurs, Jesus will say to all the dead in Christ

‘COME FORTH!’

And then to those who are alive and remain He will say

‘COME UP HERE!’

No one knows when this will happen.
We do know it WILL happen.
The signs of the times tell us the time is drawing near - and we may get into that at a different time.
What we know right now is that through Jesus Christ the individual can be ready to face death or face the rapture.

Don’t miss heaven.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Be sure you make your reservation in heaven now. Turn to Jesus Christ while there is yet time.
God bless you.

Murder

In the movies you often see an evil villain who has henchmen out to murder his enemies. The would-be victims in the movie fight their way through a long list of terrors and obstacles to reach safety and justice. The evil villain winds up dead or in jail. Occasionally the villain escapes to torment again another day. That usually happens in serials of some sort. An example would be Sherlock Holmes and Moriarty. The struggle between those two is probably still going on somewhere. Of course all that is in the realm of fiction. You just have to deal with it for the length of the book or movie. However………

Truth really is stranger than fiction. The truth is there is an evil being in the galaxy.

He has minions of evil henchmen at his disposal.

He hates your very existence.

He hates your life in the land of the living.

He wants your life utterly destroyed.

And then he wants you dead.
He is your eternal enemy and his name is Satan.

And, unlike in the movies, the evil leader never rests. He never gives up. As long as you have breath in your body Satan will be your nemesis just as Moriarty is to Sherlock Homes. Well, not exactly. Satan makes Moriarty look like a simply prankster.
I know that all sounds a bit melodramatic; however, it is entirely true.

The devil is real.

He hates you.

He is out to get you.

Of course the devil, the old dragon, the serpent, cannot take the soul of a child of God. He knows that. He also knows that while he cannot take your soul for eternity, he may be able to ruin the life you know live. He does it by tempting you to sin. He does it by planting little seeds of sin.

By the way, in your Christian life you are facing three perils:
Your sin nature
The world system
The devil.

You are fighting a war on three fronts. The devil is only one part, but he is very real and very powerful. He really is a hit-man out to get you personally. So, be wary of the devil and his plans for your life. He will tempt you to sin. He will plant little seeds of sin that can grow into a tree! Watch out. Take care. Be vigilant.

Sin pulls you in by:
You want it
Then you need it
Then you deserve it
You have a right to it
Then you take it – however you can get it – morality and legality are forgotten

Sin – whatever it may be – entices you to do something you shouldn’t do, whether it is eat that second piece of pie or steal something small or big, or kill someone literally or figuratively

Then sin becomes your boss. You can’t seem to stop yourself from doing whatever it is that you are doing.

Then sin ‘kills’ you, or kills the life you were living – as in destroys your reputation, your family, your Christian testimony, Or in some cases, it can kill you literally through disease caused by actions, or foolish actions, or even bring you to suicide.

Sin is ever present. You only master sin through the power of the Holy Spirit. I once knew a smoker who had quit for over 30 years. He said he still woke up every morning wanting a cigarette. I am not putting cigarettes in a ‘high crime’ category. It isn’t good for you though. It is expensive. I don’t see it as any worse than overeating. In fact, they seem to be the same. Smokers and over eaters are both doing something that gives disease an early opportunity to get to work destroying the body. The point is – with either smoking or over eating, you never reach the point that you don’t have to worry about it anymore. It is never fully conquered. The same goes with drinking alcohol or doing drugs. It is also the same, or worse, with gossip, lying, manipulating, coveting, jealousy, stealing, idol worship, putting God in second, third, or fortieth place in your life’s priorities. (I have heard of instances where the Holy Spirit did remove the desire for a particular vise such as excessive drinking. That can happen, but it isn’t what normally happens.)

Well, that’s a bummer of course. Where sin is concerned, you can never say, ‘Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt.’ (That is an American phrase meaning you already did something and are not planning on doing it again)

If Christians develop a conscience that is tender according to the words of the Lord, then sin is more obvious to them. It is easier to identify weak areas and lean on the Lord for victory over specific sins in our lives. The world will try to excuse your sin, encourage you to run away, blame it on someone else, tell you that it isn’t really sin, or even tell you that you are helpless to stop that particular sin.

All people are born with a sin nature. Examples all over the world prove that goodness is not something that comes from a wealthy or poor upbringing. Neither does it come from any particular ethnic group, culture, social level, beauty or lack of beauty, or anything else. You find ‘good’ and ‘bad’ in every area and in every place on earth. Sin permeates every aspect of the human, animal, and material world. There is no escaping it.

Christians who are seeking a greater fellowship and reliance on the Lord must come to understand how evil sin is. It is always evil. There are no real ways a person committed to the Lord can excuse even little sins.

Sin is murderer.
Sin is a liar.
Sin is a deceiver.
Sin is costly.
Sin is harmful in all areas of life.
And a little tiny sin is just the seed of great big sin. Sin is like the rotten apple that spoils the whole barrel of apples.

Christian, do you take sin seriously?
Even the little sin of a known Christian is an excuse for worldly people to make fun of Christians, to call them hypocrites, to call our God ineffective and irrelevant, and to generally give Christians a bad name. Of course that is not right, but that is the way it really is. Even if Christians do not take sin seriously, other people do. They don’t take sin in their own lives seriously. They take sin in YOUR life seriously. It is true that we cannot be perfectly sinless, but we can do better. But, doing better means we have to first take our own sins seriously.

Many of our sins begin in anger.
From where does anger come?
Hurt feelings
Fear
Frustration

Perhaps Cain’s anger at his brother began with hurt feelings that the Lord didn’t accept his offering. Perhaps he was frustrated that his brother’s offering was accepted and his was not. Anyway you look at it; Cain struck his brother in anger. Better to have been honest with himself in the first place.

Sometimes we are afraid to trust the Lord to care for us. We fear the future. Perhaps Abraham and Sarah were afraid the Lord wouldn’t fulfill His promise to them. Maybe they became angry at the delay. They took matter into their own hand and look what the world has to deal with today because of their sin.

Maybe they just doubted that the Lord really meant what he said. Doubt lead to worse sins. I am sure there was a bit of frustration in there somewhere. Doubt is a seed of anger incubating.

Whatever the beginning of anger, sin and sorrow will be the end result.

The repentant sinner will be forgiven. But, the consequences of sin will not be removed. Almost all Christians know of the sin of King David and Uriah’s wife Bathsheba. They repented, but they still suffered. Bathsheba’s husband was still dead. Their first baby died. People held grudges against the king. What a mess. David’s sin figuratively killed the life he had led previously. I suppose that other than the Lord’s forgiveness, David received forgiveness from many other people. However, does anyone think David ever regained the respect that he once held from the people?

I am positive David’s big sin didn’t just happen suddenly. There had to be little sins he excused as normal and ok. David effectively ‘murdered’ his own life. He also murdered Bathsheba’s husband!

To avoid sin requires that we take sin seriously, most especially the seeds of sin. A gardener who works at weed prevention and eradication is going to be much more successful when he attacks the offending vegetation when it is small. It is much more difficult to eradicate weeds if the farmer lets the weeds fully mature before he begins a weeding program. That is the way sin works in our lives. Taking out little sins is much more easily done than taking out full grown sins.

1 Peter 5:8 says, ‘Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour’.

The devil really is your adversary.
You really must take him seriously before you will be able to thwart his evil intentions toward you, and everyone and everything you love.

Romans 12:1 says, ‘I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.’

When a Christian is following the instructions in that passage, it is much easier to spot the seeds of sin and take care that they never are allowed to sprout.
