The Mocking Generation

The Mocking Generation
'Be not decieved - God is not mocked'
Galatains 6:7

The age in which we live is filled with those who mock God.  They mock what they hate.  Yes, they do hate God.  They may not say, ‘I hate God Almighty.’  However, God is the ultimate authority, and they hate authority and the rules authority puts into place.  They seek to change authority to suit their own whims regarding right and wrong. In effect, they invent a lesser god to suit the image of the god their rebellious hearts desire. To the Mocking Generation it is hateful that God does not change.  To the Believer it is comforting that God is the solid rock that does not change.

The Mocking Generation mocks God in at least three ways.
Belittle Him as ‘out of touch’, ‘ineffective’, ‘uncaring’, and ‘absent’.
Give themselves the power and authority to change the image and message of God.
In other words, they put God down, and they put themselves up.
They deny the existence of God altogether, ignoring the evidence provided by the ‘blinking neon light’ of creation.

Christians know:
It mocks God to murder.
It mocks God to tear the body of an unborn child to pieces.
It mocks God to lie.
It mocks God to condone and encourage free sex.
It mocks God to covet things belonging to other people.
It mocks God to steal – whether it is stealing from an individual or a group in the form of more taxes on the ‘rich’.
It mocks God to suggest any God other than the Almighty and Most High God of the Bible is god.
It mocks God to do something obviously wrong saying ‘the end justifies the means’.
It mocks God to love possessions and power more than God.
It mocks God to put anything above Him in importance.
It mocks God when someone attempts to change God’s words to suit social whims.
It mocks God when people set themselves up above God as the ultimate authority.
It mocks God when people reject the reality of God when every aspect of creation reveals the glory of God.
It mocks God to affirm as right what God condemns as wrong.
It mocks God to call the truth hate speech!
It mocks God to avoid or deny the truth altogether in order to ‘get along’ with those who reject the truth.
It mocks God to tolerate sin in the name of peaceful co-existence.

There are many people in the Mocking Generation who answer to no one except their own core desires.  And what they desire above everything else is ‘self-indulgence’.  If they want to do it they will do it.  If they want to have something they will obtain it by whatever means necessary.  They have set themselves up as the standard by which they will live, and they do not concede any authority over their lives to even God Almighty.

There are those in the Mocking Generation who are attempting to keep one foot firmly in both camps.  They can agree with some of the things the Mocking Generation affirms, but they still cling to some of the things Biblical morality asserts.  God Himself has some choice words to say about these people.  ‘So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.’ (Revelation 3:16)

To put it bluntly, these people make God vomit.

Remember:
The Mocking Generation is made up of all ages, genders, and demographics.
The Mocking Generation is global.
There are many millions of people in my own country who belong to the Mocking Generation.
The Mocking Generation mocks traditional morals and values.
The Mocking Generation mocks God most of all.
The Mocking Generation will not get away with disrespect to God on a permanent basis.
The Mocking Generation denies ‘scripture alone’ as all that is necessary to know God.
The Mocking Generation denies ‘faith alone’ and the only means of salvation.
The Mocking Generation is sly.  They don’t approach the world saying, ‘I am here to mock God and break all the commandments.’  Instead the often come in with some measure of obvious truths contaminated with a measure of subtle lies.  A simple example is, ‘Of course there is a god, but god has many names.’  These members of the Mocking Generation have just equated God Almighty with all the false gods of the world.  The mockers are not hard to spot if you have any idea of what God has to say about false gods.  Unfortunately, even though this is such an obvious mockery of God Almighty many are falling for this lie.  Even some who still call themselves Christian are spouting this heresy.  The mockers deny there is one mediator between God and man.  They claim there are many paths leading to heaven.  Well, there are many paths all leading to somewhere – but it definitely is not heaven.  Honestly, there are really only two paths.  One leads to God.  The other leads to hell.  The road to hell has a lot of little roads all leading to the big road that leads to hell.  The only way to escape hell is to turn around and go the opposite direction.  Thank God that He makes it very clear that there is one way to heaven through Jesus Christ.

There are some Christians who are so far from God they appear to belong to the Mocking Generation.  In the Old Testament the nephew of Abraham was such a man.  Lot had joined with the ungodly.  Each Christian should continually be taking heed to his/her personal actions.

The Mocking Generation knows OF God.  They can’t help it because God is apparent in creation just as a builder is apparent in what he builds or an artist is apparent in paintings.  However, they do not KNOW God any more than I know George Washington.  I know OF him by the historical record of his actions.  But I obviously don’t actually know the man.  Sadly that is the situation with so many people who claim to know God.  They know about Him, but they haven’t made a personal acquaintance.

No one knows how long God’s mercy will continue for an individual or nation.  The motto of the Christian with the heart of an Evangelist should be ‘one human being at a time’.  Focus on pointing one person at a time to Jesus Christ.  That person would be the one who God puts in front of you.  Pray for the people God places on your mind.  Pray for the lost to be saved.  The direction or the tide of an individual is turned when he/she accepts the Word of God as true and turns to walk in the opposite direction of their old life.  Through that one person, some of their family and friends will probably also turn.  Through families turning to God churches grow.  Outreaches grow.  More individuals turn to God through Jesus Christ.  It DOES make a difference.  It makes a difference to that person.  Every individual makes a difference to the world.

You make a difference.
Take Micah 6:8 to heart.
It says, ‘He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?’  To walk humbly with God does require obedience to God’s instructions in your personal actions.  Through obedience you grow to love mercy.  You also do justly because in doing the things God says to do, you do justly.

Christian, if you follow these instructions to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with God you are providing yourself with evidence that you are truly a born again Christian.  Salvation is by faith alone.

In Acts Chapter Four Peter speaks to the Mocking Generation of that day which included the high priest and his kindred.  These were the very ones instrumental in crucifying Jesus.  They inquired of Peter regarding how he was able to do miracles.  He replied:

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

(11) This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
(12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.’

The counter weight to the Mocking Generation is Jesus Christ.  The duty of each believer is simply to say as Peter said, ‘Jesus alone has power to save.’

The precious hymn ‘All Hail the Power of Jesus Name’ should be sung like a triumphant march.

All Hail the Power of Jesus Name

All hail the power of Jesus’ name! Let angels prostrate fall;
Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all.
Bring forth the royal diadem, and crown Him Lord of all.

Let highborn seraphs tune the lyre, and as they tune it, fall
Before His face who tunes their choir, and crown Him Lord of all.
Before His face who tunes their choir, and crown Him Lord of all.

Crown Him, ye morning stars of light, who fixed this floating ball;
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might, and crown Him Lord of all.
Now hail the strength of Israel’s might, and crown Him Lord of all.

Crown Him, ye martyrs of your God, who from His altar call;
Extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod, and crown Him Lord of all.
Extol the Stem of Jesse’s Rod, and crown Him Lord of all.

Ye seed of Israel’s chosen race, ye ransomed from the fall,
Hail Him who saves you by His grace, and crown Him Lord of all.
Hail Him who saves you by His grace, and crown Him Lord of all.

Hail Him, ye heirs of David’s line, whom David Lord did call,
The God incarnate, Man divine, and crown Him Lord of all,
The God incarnate, Man divine, and crown Him Lord of all.

Sinners, whose love can ne’er forget the wormwood and the gall,
Go spread your trophies at His feet, and crown Him Lord of all.
Go spread your trophies at His feet, and crown Him Lord of all.

Let every tribe and every tongue before Him prostrate fall
And shout in universal song the crownèd Lord of all.
And shout in universal song the crownèd Lord of all.

O that, with yonder sacred throng, we at His feet may fall,
Join in the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all,
Join in the everlasting song, and crown Him Lord of all!
